Remember, remember, the 5th of November

On 5th november, 1605 an english soldier and member of a group of Roman Catholics, named Guy Fawkes, attempted to assassinate the Protestant King James I (James IV of Scotland) and the members of the Parliament of England by blowing away the Westminster Palace during the formal opening session of the 1605 Parliament.
You see, that action was once compared to our recent terrorist actions that the world has been suffering. Guess, yeah, we can say that the reason is the same: Religion. Guy Fawkes group were aiming a total revolution in the government of England, which included (of course) the installation of a Catholic Monarch.
However, his plan was discovered before he could put it in action. After being interrogated and tortured, Guy Fawkes and his companions were executed for treason and attempted murder. Nowadays, the 5th november is being celebrated as Guy Fawkes Night (also known as Bonfire Night), and it’s more like a kids party or something, with a lot of fireworks and some street events, and it is no holiday, though.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
‘Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God’s providence he was catch’d,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!

Hip hip Hoorah !
Hip hip Hoorah !

A penny loaf to feed ol’Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,’
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we’ll say: ol’Pope is dead.
